Environment in which the farm is situated
Rekopane
is situated in the Northern Cape in the Gordonia district,
North of the Orange River, approximately 25km from Upington
and 15km from Keimoes. Bloemsmond forms the Southern
border and McTaggarts Camp the Northern border, with
the Kalahari on the Western side and Kanoneiland on
the Eastern side.
Climate
Rekopane
falls under the “Great and Upper Karoo” Climatic region.
This region is characterized by a dry (less than 100mm
in the north-west – 300mm in the east), extreme climate
with high temperatures during summer but very cold in
the winter. Autumn rainfall, peaking in March, tends
to be very unpredictable and occurs in patches.
This
tends to be in the form of isolated thunderstorms but
rainfall of a cyclonic nature can also occur in the
south-west. During summer winds from the south-west
are more prevalent compared to winter when winds from
the north tend to dominate.
